Wow, K.

Last night I told K's grandparents what she'd said to me apparently in confidence this morning and I'd only told half the story when she covered my mouth with her hand and repeated, "Stop that!" like a high-pitched machine gun. Her cheeks were flaming. Wow. I thought I had a few years before this kind of reaction, but no. She's advanced. She values her privacy. Should have known cause every time I ask her what she's thinking, no matter if she's crying or giggling,  she responds, "Peter Pan, flying."

K's latest game is this, where she has to give Oscar the Grouch three pieces of trash beginning with a specified letter, and then she gets to play bumper cars. She hasn't been interested in letters for the longest time (just her name), but the other day she spontaneously named the letters on my shirt, mistaking an L for I, but hey... been a while, and then yesterday, she spelled out "A-P-P-E-L-S-A-P" and then said "appelsap."  I suspect all the "NEXT" and "PLAY" and "GO" buttons she's been clicking with her cursor and simultaneously hearing said aloud have been helping her make the connection between letters and words. She has also been sorting laundry, and using a laser bubble gun to fill potholes so she can drive over them. I appreciate the large selection of free online games for toddlers but not as much as I appreciate her ability to figure out and play something new with a huge grin on her face.
